Would not recommend failed at 1 year mark

I™€™m extremely disappointed with this GE microwave. The microwave actually failed before the one-year warranty period had expired, but I did not contact GE to report the problem until just a matter of days after the warranty expiration date. GE refused to provide warranty coverage because I reported the failure a few days too late. I understand having a warranty cutoff, but the fact remains that the product failed while it was still within the warranty period, and a microwave should reasonably last far longer than one year in the first place. I was especially disappointed that GE was unwilling to offer any goodwill or make an exception considering how close this was to the warranty expiration. When an appliance fails in less than a year, I expect the manufacturer to stand behind its product rather than focus solely on the date the customer called. Between the premature failure and GE™€™s handling of the situation, I would not purchase this microwave again and this experience will definitely make me think twice before purchasing another GE appliance.

it was working well.. untill inside light never goes off.. seems the door sensor/switch got messed up automatically. very bad quality make. we had GE Profile model PSA1201RSS from 2012 to 2023 - almost 12 years fully functional. This product was very badly manufactured and QC done. End up buying new one again :-(

Buttons hard to find,

Micro heats very well, with easy one push 1-5 minute times. Unfortunately, like many other products these days, the buttons are not easy to push, as they require your finger to be exactly in a specific small spot. Makes for a lot of pushing trying to find that spot. Also, the light is not very bright. The high setting is about what the low setting was on my old micro.

I just had this microwave installed yesterday, but my first impressions are mostly positive. Pros: ™€ Great quick-cook options: The express cook buttons are extremely convenient™€"being able to hit one button for 1™€“6 minutes is something I use constantly. The dedicated Reheat and Melt functions work well so far and take the guesswork out of warming leftovers or softening butter. ™€ Bright, clean interior: I really like the white interior. It lights up well and makes it easier to see how food is cooking or if anything needs to be cleaned. ™€ Fingerprint-resistant finish: The stainless steel looks sharp, and the fingerprint-resistant coating actually works. After multiple uses and opening/closing, it still looks clean without constant wiping. ™€ Even heating: Everything I™€™ve reheated so far has warmed evenly, and the sensor cooking seems to do a good job adjusting time automatically. Cons: ™€ Louder than expected: It runs noticeably louder than my previous over-the-range microwave. It™€™s not unbearable, but it™€™s definitely a step up in noise level. ™€ Door quality feels lighter: The door doesn™€™t feel as solid or heavy as my last microwave. It has a bit of a flimsy feel when opening and closing, which surprised me for a GE model. ™€ Quiet chime: The alert chime is very soft. I bought this microwave to replace a GE JVM6175SK3SS that was installed in our new home in 2020. It went "belly up" in March of 2025 which is an indication of how well the product is designed. Worse, the service technician said it was "reparrable" but the part was around $450 and the installation would have driven the cost to over $600. So, I bought a new GE microwave so that I didn't have to worry about the fit and usability features. The JVM6175YK6FS fit the bill for $425 including installation. Now, for the review. - Positive: the controls were familiar since we had a GE before. - Neutral: the space is more than adequate, although I'd still prefer the GE Space Saver that we had in our old house. The microwave is, essentially, too big for what we (and, I think, most users) need. In addition, I hate it mounted over the stove. It's inconvenient and, frankly, dangerous. Moreover, it obstructs your ability to cook comfortably on the back burners. - Neutral: this model uses two separate screen filters instead of one. I'm not convinced that's a positive or not since the filters in the new configuration are smaller and oriented directly over the burners. I think it would be more efficient to have a single, larger filter that can direct steam, etc to the exhaust (although I'm sure the engineers would contradict that). With that said, the way the filters are designed, they installation is really flimsy. - Negative: the new microwave - like the old one - uses a halogen light bulb for the cooktop workspace lighting. There is a vacant cut-out in the mounting plate that suggests that some models contain two halogen bulbs. Since my model allow a high/low selection, I'm not sure what the advantage to two bulbs might be. I know there are disadvantage (keep reading). 1. The owners manuals says the halogen bulbs have a screw-in base. WRONG. They use the old two-prong base which is a real pain to install (especially if you're wearing progressive lenses). 2. The halogens burn so hot that the turntable plate actually get hot. Not good. 3. The halogen bulb is 50W and it's nowhere near enough light. 4. Why on earth would you NOT spec an LED bulb. I replaced the halogen in the old microwave with an LED and it was the best $10 I ever spend for a pair (although I did have to trim the silicone base to allow the prongs to fit receptacle). And I never had to replace it. The downside to the LEDs available online is that they claim to work on the low setting without flicker. They lied. However, I used the light 24 hours a day. It served as a kitchen night light as well as a work light on the high setting and had over 31,000 hours on it when the microwave was hauled away and replace.

Since I installed myself I didn™€™t want to go thru the hassle of changing brackets etc so I just purchased the same one in hopes it lasts longer. Cheaper to buy a new one than to have other repaired. When it works it does as it should. Has lots of fancy features we rarely use.
